BENIFFEST is a film festival and year-round industry-development platform connecting stories, filmmakers, projects, talent and opportunities from Benue and Nigeria’s Middle Belt to Africa and the world.
Through film exhibition, talent development, creative exchange and industry connections, BENIFFEST works to strengthen the visibility, growth and sustainability of the region’s film ecosystem.
BENIFFEST began with a conviction that the stories, talent and creative potential of Benue deserved a stronger platform. What started with a pilot film event in 2022 has grown into a broader vision for developing talent, supporting creative projects and connecting people across the film industry.
Our journey has included film exhibition, children’s talent development, practical filmmaking and support for emerging performers. These experiences continue to shape our approach to building a year-round ecosystem that connects stories, people, projects and opportunities.
From our beginnings in Benue to our wider ambitions, our purpose remains the same: to help local stories and creative talent find their place in the world.
BENIFFEST’s pilot phase brought together films from Benue, other parts of Nigeria and international locations, including the United States and Canada. Organised with Exodus Cinema, Makurdi, the event featured screenings, awards, industry discussions and international participation through its panelists and jury.
BENIFFEST introduced a free, two-week acting programme for children aged 7–15, providing practical training and access to creative learning. The initiative also included children from orphanages and IDP camps.
The Benue Kids Can Act initiative proceeded to produce Against the Tides. Filming began in August 2023 under director Sunny Okwori. The film remains in post-production.
BENIFFEST continued connecting participants with professional auditions and film productions. Some have progressed into acting work, reflecting the initiative’s contribution to talent development and industry participation.
BENIFFEST is advancing beyond the annual festival, connecting film exhibition, talent, projects, creative services and industry opportunities through a wider year-round platform rooted in Benue and Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
