Version 1.0 · Last updated 11 October 2026
This page explains how BENIFFEST (the Benue International Film Festival, based in Benue State, Nigeria) handles personal information, and sets the terms for using beniffest.com and the BENIFFEST Industry Registry. In this page, “BENIFFEST”, “we” and “us” mean the festival organisation behind this website.
It covers visitors to the website, people who join the mailing list, people who register projects, talent profiles or crew and service listings in the Registry, and people who contact us. Questions about this page can be sent to [email protected].
When you register a project, a talent profile or a crew and services listing, we collect the details you enter on the form: your name or business name, location (country, state or region, city), languages, profession or services, a description, and optional website links. We also collect private contact details (email address, phone number, contact person, and for projects the owner’s name and an optional link to private materials). We record when you gave consent and the version of this page you agreed to.
Your email address and the time you agreed to receive updates. We use a confirmation email (double opt-in) before you are subscribed.
Anything you send us by email or through a form, and our replies.
When you visit, our hosting, security and analytics tools receive technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, approximate location and referring website. To limit spam and abuse on our forms we store an irreversible code (a hash) derived from your IP address, not the address itself, and we keep a hashed form of your email address to detect duplicate registrations.
BENIFFEST staff and volunteers who use our internal systems have accounts with a name, email address and role.

Private details are never shown on the website and are not available through the website’s public data feeds. Do not put confidential, sensitive or private information into the public fields: anything you enter there may be seen by anyone once approved.
For Crew and Services listings, when a listing is approved the company name and contact details may also be added to BENIFFEST’s internal contact system so that our partnerships team can follow up. They are not published and not shared outside BENIFFEST.
We share personal information only where needed to run the website and the festival:
These providers act on our instructions or under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not give your private Registry details to other participants, sponsors or the public.
Some of the providers above store or process information in other countries. Where this happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the provider’s data-protection terms, and we only use providers that offer a reasonable standard of protection.
The website uses cookies and similar technologies. Necessary ones keep the website secure and working. We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. People who are logged in as BENIFFEST team members are excluded from these counts. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking some cookies may affect parts of the website.
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted access to private Registry details, spam and abuse controls, regular updates and backups. No online service is completely secure, and you should keep your private edit link to yourself.
Under Nigerian data-protection law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and similar laws that may apply to you elsewhere, you may have the right to:
You can edit or remove a Registry entry yourself with the private link emailed to you, and unsubscribe from the mailing list with the link in any email. For any other request, write to [email protected]. We aim to reply within one month.
The Registry and the mailing list are for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect children’s information through the website. Children who take part in BENIFFEST programmes do so with the consent of a parent or guardian, and we publish images or footage of children only after confirming permissions and safeguarding requirements.
We may update this page as the website and our activities change. The version and date at the top show when it was last updated. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we will tell you in a suitable way, such as by email to the mailing list.
You may browse and share the website for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes. Please do not misuse it: do not attempt to break or overload it, gain unauthorised access, send spam or malicious content, or use automated tools to collect personal information from it.
Project owners keep ownership of their intellectual property. Registering a project or profile does not transfer any rights in your stories, scripts, films, designs or other work to BENIFFEST. By submitting an entry, you give BENIFFEST a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display the public fields you provide on the website and in related promotion of the Registry, for as long as the entry is published. You confirm that you own or are authorised to submit what you provide and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Do not put scripts, treatments or other confidential material in the public fields. Optional private links are visible only to the BENIFFEST team.
The BENIFFEST name, logo, website design and our own text, photographs and graphics belong to BENIFFEST or are used with permission. Photographs and archive material may be credited to their creators. You may not copy or reuse them commercially without written permission.
Programmes such as the Project Development Clinic, Survivors of the Middle Belt and BENIFFEST 365 activities, and the open calls and opportunities listed on the website, are announced as they are confirmed and may have their own rules, which will be published with each call. Dates, venues, programmes, partners and prizes for BENIFFEST 2026 are announced only when confirmed and may change.
We send updates only to people who have confirmed their subscription. Every message includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove you by email.
The website may link to other websites and services that we do not control and are not responsible for. Partner names and logos appear only with the partner’s permission, and a listing or mention does not mean a partnership, sponsorship or endorsement unless we say so.
We work to keep the website accurate and available, but it is provided “as is”. We do not promise that it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not responsible for information that Registry participants provide. To the fullest extent the law allows, BENIFFEST is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the website or the Registry. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Disputes should first be raised with us so we can try to resolve them informally. If they cannot be resolved, the courts of Nigeria have jurisdiction.
